Family Traditions to start with your Family

Family Traditions

Many people have several different kinds of family traditions in their family. Traditions are things that you can pass down to the younger generations in the family and they in turn may pass them down or even add to the family tradition. I personally borrowed a family tradition from one of my favorite Soap Operas called, Days of our Lives. Every time that someone new is born in the family I go and get a Christmas ornament made for them and it will show the year of their first Christmas and their name on it. It is a little different than my soap opera because the Horton family grandmother made theirs and I get ours made from the store called Things Remembered. If a family member is not with us that year , in another state etc. we hang their ornament up for them.

10 New Traditions You Can Start With Your Family

1. Road Trip games
While traveling every time someone sees a Volkswagen Beetle they punch the person next to them in the arm a yell out “Punch Buggy”. My brother and I use to play this game all the time when we were little and we went on family road trips.
Playing these games helps the time go by quicker and before you know it you will be at your destination. Most parents like the road trip games because they do not have to constantly here, “are we there yet?”.
2. Start a Thankful Jar
Starting November 1st each day have everyone in the family put something that they are thankful for and put it in a jar. When Thanksgiving comes, everyone can sit around th dinner table and read off what everyone is thankful for.
3. Pizza night Fridays
Growing up my mom always made Friday nights are pizza nights. We would either go to Pizza Hut and sit down and eat inside the restaurant or we would order it in and watch movies while we ate the pizza. Great way to end the work week and to spend great time with family.
4. Soul Food Sundays
Growing up on Sundays after church we would always eat a big dinner at home or we would go out to eat at places like The Catfish House or Ryans back in Clarksville, TN. Either way it was a hearty Sunday meal.
5. New Local Places
Once a week take a moment to visit a place that you haven’t visited before rather it is local or a little ways away. It be like little mini vacations each week. Where we currently liv we have several little towns that are just between thirty min and three hours away that we can visit. Some places are historical and some are just a new restaurant we heard about and decided to try.
6. Bake Christmas Cookies for Santa
On Christmas Eve each year the entire family can bake Christmas treats for Santa. This will be a great time filled with laughter and great conversations.

7. Host a family game night
Pick a game or games to play and invite the family over to play some games and eat drink and be merry.

8. Charm Day
One year buy your daughter or daughters a Pandora bracelet and then each year get your child a new charm to go on the bracelet. The fun part is to make sure it is a charm that represents that child so basically her bracelet will tell her story.
9. Plan a date night with each child once a month
When you have more than one child sometimes the kids want at least a few moments with mom or dad just by themselves. Let the child choose a special place where they would like to go to and spend some quality one on one time with you.
10. Family Dance Night
My girls take dance so this one is by far one of their favorite traditions. We pick one night each month and we have a dance competition. It gets really serious because my girls love coordinating new dance routines. They not only practice their dance routines that they get from dance class but you can also catch them practicing the dance routines that they made on their own to perform later on that month.

As my son has gotten older I am so thankful for our family traditions. When he is not able to participate in one he feels the emptiness of not being there. Family traditions hold a special bond of moments and memories that stay in your heart forever. I hope everyone is making them ! And adding new ones all the time

This list sounds like so much fun! I did #8 for my daughter, but with James Avery. I bought the bracelet and charms on EBAY for less, then took them to the local store for polishing. Was as good as new!
