Welcome back #fitfam, today we’re going to talk about the “new year, new me” mentality that is prevalent around the turn of the calendar from December to January on an annual basis. As you may have previously read, I am anti-new years resolution. A byproduct of that mentality is the idea that waiting for a specific date to decide to improve is just silly to me.

What troubles me is how many people think that January 1 is going to automatically bring better habits, a new mindset, and DISCIPLINE…it’s not realistic and is counter-productive to actual progress. Sure, occasionally, a person has made up their mind to change their life at the start of a year. But more than likely, those people decided quite some time before the first that it was time for a shift in their life and they were mentally invested in their new beginning.

What I find to be the most effective approach the beginning of the year is to begin your quest prior to the 1st of January. The first priority is mental readiness and we should be working to lock our mindset into positive change. Finding a program, trainer, or group that will hold you accountable will create a higher chance of success and will push you into the new year with confidence. The best bit of advice that I can provide is to not think new year, new me…just believe that you are taking the core of who you are and constantly fine-tuning yourself. You don’t need to be a new person, you are already uniquely awesome – you’re just increasing you personal health and wellness and it doesn’t take a new year to so.

My wish is that my advice will inspire and drive you to the next level, please enjoy these tips!
