Welcome back #fitfam, today we’re going to talk about TEMPTATION – the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise. Related to health & wellness, eating foods that you enjoy can never actually be considered wrong but there are scenarios when it can be considered unwise. The crazy thing about temptation is that the intensity of it can vary by time of year or seasonally. Consider this, in the spring and summer, you are probably less likely to eat unhealthy foods unless you already have poor eating habits. On the flip side, fall and winter present a specific set of problems or temptations that you must prepare for and plan an attack to maintain your fitness goals. The specific hurdles in those seasons are the holidays including Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, coupled with cold weather and heavier comfort foods. And by the way, let’s add in limited outdoor activities. The colder months of the year are absolutely the most challenging in my opinion.

Have you noticed that stores are putting out their Halloween candy immediately following their Labor Day promos, tempting you with tasty treats that are hard to resist. And it sucks that my favorites always seem to be right near the register, where I am momentarily captive. Following Halloween, we roll into Thanksgiving, which is one of the worst holidays for health conscious eaters because we are encouraged to overeat. We wrap up the year with the 7 day blitz of Christmas/New Years and that rough patch between Thanksgiving and Christmas filled with parties and cookies everywhere we go. Argh!!!

But here’s how we will beat ‘Temptation SZN’ this year: say it with me “DISCIPLINE!” We will be accountable and consistent with our eating habits for the rest of 2023. That doesn’t mean we won’t enjoy the joyous time of pumpkin spice and pastry heaven, but we will be self-aware and conscious of what we consume.

I’ve previously mentioned planned failure, this is the time of practical application – we will concede specific days to enjoy the great snacks but factor them into our caloric intake and balance them with better meal choices. The goal is to focus on getting to January at or below our current weight and fitness level. You’ll find that maintaining control over consumption is everything!

My wish is that my advice will inspire and drive you to the next level, please enjoy these tips!
