Jack and Jill Waco Central Texas Chapter
Jack & Jill
A Longstanding Legacy of Impact
Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1938 with the mission of improving the quality of life for children, particularly African American children, by fostering leadership, civic engagement, volunteer service, and cultural awareness.
The Waco Central Texas chapter traces its roots to the mid-1950s when sixteen visionary mothers came together with a shared dream of strengthening the community and supporting Afro American families through meaningful programs that engage both children and parents. They became an official chapter in the fall of 1956, and has since grown to serve families across multiple Central Texas counties, including McLennan, Bell, Coryell, and others.
Additionally, the chapter engages in special programming like cotillion balls, where participants undergo leadership and etiquette training over several months — an experience that helps teens develop social confidence and community awareness.
Celebrating Legacy and Looking Ahead
The Waco Central Texas chapter’s motto, “Let’s work, let’s play, let’s live together,” speaks to its holistic approach to youth development and family unity.
As Jack & Jill of America — The Waco Central Texas Chapter continues its mission, the focus remains on preparing kids to be thoughtful, confident, and community-minded adults — a legacy of leadership that spans generations.
They are a service-driven organization whose mission extends far beyond cotillion. the youth members actively engage in meaningful community service initiatives, including volunteering at nursing homes, supporting foster care agencies, participating in homeless outreach, honoring veterans through wreath-laying programs, and raising awareness for causes such as breast cancer and the March of Dimes.
In addition to service, they are committed to educational, cultural, civic, social, and health-focused initiatives that promote strong, healthy families and thriving communities.
This year’s event is especially significant as they celebrate 70 years of dedicated service to the community. In honor of this milestone, they are also contributing to a college fund designed to encourage and support higher education for future generations.
