The 2021 Groove Regional Competition on March 20, 2021 was held in Austin, Texas at the Hilton Hotel. The Hilton Hotel is located at 500 E 4th Street, Austin Texas 78701. My daughter who is apart of Studio 203 Dance Centre in Killeen, Texas had two performances at this event. Her group did Tap (Man With a Hex) and Jazz (Don’t Start Now).
Austin, Texas is just a hour away from us so this competition travel time wasn’t that bad. Competition with our studio is normally two semi local shows and one out of town, like three hours away. Our next competition was scheduled for the weekend of April 11th in Arlington, Texas. With all the costumes that the girls have, I make sure that they have a Dream Duffle bag with a hanging rack to hang all of them up neatly in the dressing room.
I have been a dance mom for literally twenty years. My oldest daughter is 25 and started dancing when she was three year old, followed by her younger sister at the exact same age. My youngest daughter competed in this competition, however, both girls dance at Studio 203 Dance Centre.
The doors opened for the event around 6:30 p.m. Dancers from several different studios attended this event. The stage was lit up, smiles on all the performers faces and make up all on-point. Lights, Camera, Action!
My daughter’s last performance was at 9:15 p.m. that night and then there were several performances after hers and then rewards so we had planned in advance to stay the night at the Hilton. When the Studio gives us the competition dates, and places I go ahead and book hotels near each event in advance I do this to make sure they do not get booked. Once it gets closer to the event and they narrow down the time that my girls will be performing I then edit my reservations to accommodate the time that they give us. Dancers come from everywhere for these dance competitions so it is a good idea to book hotels in advance, if you decide that you don’t want to stay the night it is a lot easier to cancel by the cancelation date then to try and make a reservation closer to the competition and find out that the hotels are booked.
v The girls and boys wore masks around the hotel and had on black masks when they performed on stage. Only one adult per dancer was allowed in the auditorium to keep the numbers down due to Covid Restrictions and Social distancing. The parents and family members that did not get to attend could watch it live stream at www.groovecompetition.com.,then select “Live stream” from the top navigation bar. Where the stage was at we were able to watch either directly at the stage or the two televisions that were one on each side of the room. My daughter and her group went home with second place overall in Jazz, (Don’t Start Now). The studio competition teams brought home Elite Sapphires and Diamond awards overall. The Studio 203 Dance Centre that my girls dance for was awarded the ADCC Award. This award is awarded to a studio that exemplifies the mission and the purpose of the ADCC which is to promote quality, integrity and opportunity in the dance competition world.
It is great to have be have all your competition items organized and ready to go. I love the Dream Duffels for my girls because they can stay organized for every competition.
I’m a dance teacher and dance mom! Dream Duffels are brilliant!
