Cheers #fitfam, I’d like to start this holiday edition of Health & Wellness by wishing you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Today I’m going to share a holiday success secret of mine, but first I’d like to share what I am thankful for.

Life – I am truly thankful that I have an opportunity each day to spread cheer to others and impact lives through fitness and sports media.

Health – I feel privileged and blessed that despite being in my 40s and a former cigarette smoker, I am in good health and improving day-by-day.

Family – Family is high up my priority list, ‘faith, family, and fellowship’ are my tenets. I have such a great support system and I’m thankful that they all hold me down when I need grounding and encourage me to achieve greater things everyday.

I’d love to read what you all are thankful for!

Now I’ll share my plan for the week of a holiday, specifically Thanksgiving and you can also apply this to Easter, 4th of July, etc. I have a different approach for the treacherous challenge of the week of Christmas leading into the New Year which I will share in December.

My strategy for holidays that fall midweek or so is to begin on Monday with 20 minutes of cardio that includes strictly bodyweight exercises with a focus on maintaining tempo. It’s a great opportunity to use the AMRAP method and try to keep moving the entire 20 minutes. Tuesday is ab focused and the target is 500 reps, so 50 reps of 10 different exercises or 100 reps of 5 different exercises. The goal is to maintain the schedule. Wednesday is full-body fitness, 3 AMRAP cardio drills, 3 – upper body drills * 30, 3 – lower body drills * 45, and then an active cool down of 3-5 minutes. Thursday is more abs, repeat Tuesday’s circuit. Friday is full body using the schedule from Wednesday. Saturday is a return to cardio for 30 minutes and rest on Sunday. I’ll add that your calorie target for the week should be 1,200 per day and you can consume up to 2,000 calories on the holiday itself.

No matter which day of the week the holiday falls on, you’re able to dedicate 30 minutes to your personal wellness and maintain a level of consistency that won’t allow you to lose focus. The daily circuits are short by design because the goal is to just keep going and not have the excuse of time to stall your progress. This is my personal approach to beating the bulge by being intentional and planning ahead!

Lastly, I have training programs as low as $75/month that will supplement and guide you to your goals.
